Our Services
Pacific Light and Power develops utility, commercial, and agriculturally scaled renewable energy projects. With Kauai’s environmental and cultural needs in mind, we develop renewable energy - from conceptual to “turn-key” projects. We conduct site, resource, and technology assessments and do project feasibility studies. We offer project development, financing, and management. Site, Resource, & Technology Assessment: Even a few miles can make a significant difference in the available resources and appropriate technological choices for your project. Assessing solar insolation, wind data and bio-mass potential are vital first steps to any project. Matching the appropriate technology to available resources ensures your project’s greatest return. Feasibility Studies: In this stage of the project, environmental, cultural and other critical issues that can effect the viability of a project on Kauai are identified and evaluated. Site control, project economics, power pricing and sales, permitting, and transmission are issues that are assessed, with a go/no-go project recommendation. Project Development and Financing: Feasible projects are taken into development. In this stage, permits and regulatory approvals are obtained. Purchase Power Agreements (PPAs) and Interconnect Agreements are negotiated and finalized Risk management is assessed. Project financing, including tax benefits and ownership structures, is determined and secured. Design, engineering, equipment, and contracting choices are made. Project Management: Once the project development phase is closed, build-out and operation need co-ordination and ongoing supervision and management. Projects always encounter unexpected challenges and delays.
